February 14, 2014 A Valentine’s Card For You Posted In: Writing

February 14, 2014

I love you too, it’s just that I left your Valentine’s card in my other coat.
It was really good, I promise, filled to the brim with heavy poetry
and all kinds of sweet stuff.

Look, you’re right… I could go home and get the coat but what kind of relationship is this
if you can’t trust my love without proof? Did you bring your stethoscope too?

I used a love heart to dot the “I”.
Yes, I know, there’s no “I” in my name. It’s just a figure of speech.
You should be used to them by now.
Yes, of course I could have used a heart for the “o” in LOVE
but the words I chose for you were better than simple love.

My poetry crushed small buildings with its weak sentiment.
I used every trick in the book to make you love me.

But I’m sorry, you’ll just have to trust me,
for I left my love for you in another coat,
in another house, in a world I don’t visit very often.
